- Analogue
This includes single & multi analogue lines. This is the standard copper line primarily used for voice call, connecting fax machines and receiving broadband.
- ISDN
ISDN is different to analogue lines as it carries information in digital format. It is still a copper line and can carry data as well as offer higher quality sound for voice call from regular telephone lines – using the appropriate equipment to convert analogue to digital information.
The two options are ISDN2e and ISDN30.
- ISDN2e and ISDN30
ISDN2e or also know as BRI (Basic Rate ISDN) has two 64k channels each used for either voice, data, video or fax.
ISDN30 or PRI (Primary Rate IDSN) is used by larger organisations as it can support between 8 and 30 digital channels.
- DSL
A DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) provides a permanent connection (ISDN and analogue connect through dial-up)
A DSL is an upgrade to an analogue line (you need an analogue line first) and can also be an upgrade to ISDN.
There are two options, ADSL and SDSL.
- ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)
This is the best sort of line for most organisations – providing efficient download speeds.
- SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line)
This line is suitable for organisations who need to upload information efficiently as well as download. For example those who host their own web and mail servers.
- Ethernet and EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile)
Ethernet is an efficient way of carrying information that can be transmitted over both copper and fibre lines.
EFM is an attractive technology as it allows information to travel at high speeds on low cost copper lines.
It's particularly valuable for those who require good upload as well as download capabilities.
- Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) & Fibre To The Premises (FTTP)
FTTC uses a Fibre Optic cable, which is installed from the telephone exchange to the street side telephone cabinet and is used to deliver communications such as broadband, digital TV and telephone.
- VoIP & SIP Lines
Routing voice calls over the internet using SIP lines can significantly reduce costs.
- Leased Lines for Internet Access
Foehn can offer the lowest cost rates for fibre (where possible) and copper leased lines – significantly reducing your monthly cost.
