Virtualization
Virtualization is the process by which a set of IT assets are moved from a physical environment to a virtual one, the so called Physical-2-Virtual (P2V) migration. This means many different and discrete applications can run on far fewer physical platforms - providing reductions of up to 50-60% in capital expenditure, 33% in the routine maintenance and 80% in energy, plus further reductions in related physical space costs.
From the desktop to datacentre servers and more recently network appliances, this process represents a quantum leap for IT strategists by allowing them to consolidate and centralize investments, meet green computing mandates and offset infrequent computing tasks to cloud based infrastructures.
